Terrie Myers never believed life would give her a second chance at anything. Little did she understand the draw of a little girl with dreams of a knight in shining armor. Or the magic of hope that would turn those dreams into reality.

Excerpt:
She had finished washing the few dishes she’d used for supper when there was a knock on the door. Terrie’s eyes immediately went to the clock radio sitting on the table. It was a little past seven. Who on earth could be—
Madge. Maybe it was Madge.
Point Maddin had very little if any crime. Mostly petty thefts, graffiti spray painted on fences, and a few slashed tires. But after living in Tulsa as long as she had, Terrie had qualms about leaving her home unlocked, or opening her door without knowing first who was on the other side.
"Who is it?"
"Uhh, Paul Leeds. Are you the lady who played with Molly on the beach today?"
Well, what do you know! The girl did name the knight after her daddy!
"Hold on!" she quickly unlocked the door. She opened it, and literally gasped to see the man standing on the other side.
In the porch light she could see he was tall and broad-shouldered. Dark reddish-brown hair, maybe chestnut. And the most gorgeous blue eyes she’d ever seen on a human being. Vaguely, she wondered if he wore colored contacts.
"Uhh. Yeah. What’s wrong? Is something the matter?"
"Oh, no! Nothing’s wrong. In fact, Connie told me about you taking the time to play with her. No, uhh..." He held out the net beach bag Terrie had left behind. "Molly said this was yours."
"Thank you." It was difficult to breathe. It was like his presence was sucking all the oxygen out of the place. She reached out to take the bag, and her whole body trembled.
Good Lord, what’s wrong with me?
"I also wanted to thank you...Terrie, right?" He smiled, and Terrie swore she could feel herself beginning to puddle all over the plank flooring.
Why don’t you ask him inside? a little voice whispered inside her head.
Are you nuts? He’s a married man!
"Yes. I’m sorry. Terrie Myers." She held out her hand. The moment she did, she knew she was done for.
Sure enough, when his warm fingers closed over hers, Terrie had to clutch the door just to keep herself on her feet. She was amazed she still was able to speak coherently.
"Terrie. Well, thank you for being such a good neighbor."
"Yeah. Connie told me you were from Tempe." A little giggle escaped her. "Quite a contrast between here and there."
He laughed softly. So softly she wished she could press her cheek to his chest and listen to it echo. "I don’t think you could get much more of a contrast than between those two places. Are you a permanent resident here, Miss Myers?"
For a moment there Terrie got the distinct impression that the man wanted to be asked in. But that wouldn’t be kosher.
"Umm, pretty much so. Now. My family’s owned this place for several decades. I’ve just recently moved back myself...on a permanent basis." She managed a smile and hoped he wouldn’t notice how nervous she was.
Or maybe he did. At least he realized she wasn’t going to invite him inside.
"Well, I need to be getting back to the house. Thank you again, Miss Myers. Next time you come by, you’re welcome to join us for hot chocolate. Or some spiced cider, being the season and all."
"Thank you. That sounds nice."
He made a half-hearted gesture, like a wave, and left the porch. Terrie stepped outside where she saw him get into a small sports car before driving away. Going back inside her bungalow, she wondered how the Leeds managed to find their way to Point Maddin, population two hundred and fifty-eight, when most of the out-of-towners were down during the summer months.
More than that, Terrie wondered how she was going to keep from dreaming tonight about the good-looking Mr. Paul Leeds without feeling any sort of guilt.

HeartFast
A sensuous erotic sci-fi romance

They were the Guardians, sixteen special men and women with incredible powers. They lived on a world that, eons ago, had suffered a devastating plague that had rendered more than half its population unable to reproduce. In order to assure the survival of their species, the HandFast law was enacted. Every month, twenty couples, complete strangers, were drawn by lottery—couples whose sole purpose would be to procreate.
It was a cold and impersonal law, but it worked. When StarLight and Master Hunter heard their names called out to be HandFasted, their neat, orderly lives were turned upside-down. Gone was the comfortable companionship and brother-sister working relationship. Now they were forced into an intimacy neither had wanted, nor expected.Neither were they prepared for the overwhelming passion they would find in each other's bodies, as well as in their hearts. But things would only get more complicated and dangerous, because someone had deliberately placed their names in the lottery as the first step in destroying their world and every Guardian living.
*****
Excerpt:
Two nights. They had shared two nights, and she’d become like his own blood.
The netherworld protected him during his flight past a hundred moons and planets. Its only drawback was that it wasn’t oxygen rich, which meant he had to find worlds where he could breathe and re-stock that thin bubble around him. As he slipped effortlessly into gray, mist-like non-existence, his body reached out, calling to her.
Terrin.
Time Merchant and Deceiver had stared at him when he had told them he had to convince Star he loved her. Oddly, though, they didn’t seemed surprised, other than hearing him declare it. A tiny smile creased the corners of his mouth. How many of them already suspected the truth?
A tiny shimmering of color rainbowed from behind an asteroid belt circling an uninhabited planet below. The phenomena should not have been there, as the coloring faced away from any light source. Hunter felt a tug in his bones, and he dropped to check it out.
When he finally spotted her, for the span of several heartbeats he almost allowed his terror to swallow him whole. She was lying sprawled inside one of the million craters spotting the back of the largest asteroid. Motionless, there was no sign of breathing, no sign of life coming from her.
Hunter drew closer. The asteroid had no atmosphere. If he left the void, he would die almost instantly, but definitely, and with extreme agony in the airlessness of space.
A tremor ran through her, and her eyes flew open. Her mouth formed a single word.
No!
He watched as she painfully got to her feet, and at that moment it hit him. She could feel him. She could tell he was there, as surely as he could sense her. How, he couldn’t begin to understand, but the knowledge gave him both a sense of security while at the same time it also posed a problem. How would he be able to approach her if she could "see" him coming?
Star was weak. The star-like pattern on her body suit barely moved. Her face was pale. Wane. Her violet eyes were enormous saucers.
Taking the risk, Hunter coalesced for less than a fraction of a second before retreating back into the void. But it was enough time to drop the earpiece in front of her.
Star saw the tiny communications device materialize near the toe of her boot, as if by magic. Long moments passed as she stared at it, warring with her emotions. Fighting with her need to hear his voice, even though she knew that if she relented and put it on, all that she had accomplished thus far would not matter anymore.
Hunter watched her body tremble as he softly urged her to "-pick it up, my love. Please. Please. Take it and put it on. Let me talk to you. Let me tell you how this flight is going to kill us, but I don’t care. I don’t care anymore, not as long as I’m with you. Not as long as the last thing I ever see is your beautiful face. Pick up the earpiece, Terrin. Please."
She bent to retrieve the earpiece, and Hunter finally knew her love for him was greater than her worse fears and despair. He waited for her to slip it on. Waited for her to speak first.
"I know you’re there. I can feel you. You’re so damn close." Her voice was a ghost. She was past exhaustion, as was he.
"Terrin."
At the sound of her name, Star almost convulsed, tightly shutting her eyes as she clenched her fists in front of her.
"I can’t ... I can’t take any more, Udo," she told him. Her confession sounded thin and far away in the vacuum of space. "Why won’t you let me go?"
"Because if I do, I will lose what’s left of my sanity. I love you, Terrin. So much, that if I have to follow you for the rest of my days, I’ll do so without any reservation. I can’t let you go. I never will."

HeartFast was not just a satisfying romance, it was also a mind-teasing mystery and science fiction read as well. Emotionally conveyed, StarLight and Master Hunter’s story was equally touching, painful and poignant to read. ~ An Outstanding Read, Simply Romance Reviews

Forever Faithful out tomorrow Nov, 1st.

A Champagne Books western romance set in the Hill Country of Texas.

Love is like a flame, some days it burns bright and others it dwindles. Faith is the forge upon which love is strengthened to steel.
LUCAS and GAIL JOHNSON live the idyllic life on their ranch near the small town of Stony Creek, Texas. The one thing they want but don’t have is a child created from their love. Will an unidentified body pulled from nearby Possum Creek and a single night of indiscretion shatter their dreams of happily ever after?

Gail lay on the bed, a grin stretching her face as she listened to Lucas sing in the shower. She felt tempted to run into the kitchen and turn on the hot water so she could hear his yelp as the cold stream hit him. Nope, better not this morning. She was taking a week of vacation to do some things around the house and wanted to be in town by nine. Last time she’d done so he jumped out, chased her down, and pulled her in the shower with him. It would be fun to see her handsome husband run wet and naked through the house again but.... She rolled off the bed and dressed in shorts and a tee shirt.

When Lucas entered the kitchen, Gail lifted slices of crisp bacon onto a paper towel to drain. He caught her around the waist and drew her backside up against him while she poured pancake batter into the old iron skillet atop the stove. His lips nibbled across her neck making her shiver.

“Mmmm, you taste good,” he said.

She turned in his arms and put her head on his chest. God, she loved this man. They’d been married four years, known each other a lifetime and the sound of his voice still made her heart lurch. Squeezing his waist, she shoved him back a step, smiled up at him, and teased. “You smell mighty fine to be working with horses all day.”

He laughed and started filling their mugs with coffee. “Well, a man never knows when his favorite filly might visit him at the stables.”

Thanks for stopping by.

Check out our Booksigning!

From left to right: Linda Mooney, Robyn Wren, Diana Castilleja, Emma Sanders and Ciara Gold. Not pictured - Celia Yeary.

On October 4, five of us gathered for a booksigning at the Hastings in San Marcus. Wow, what a fabulous day thanks to the efforts of Diana Castilleja. We all showed up around 2:00 PM and the store managers welcomed us like we were queens and we were. We had the perfect spot, right in front so no one got by us without a howdy-do.

We stayed until 5:00 PM when most of us had to leave and the store kept quite a few copies to place on their special local author's shelf.

I love these group signings because we get to visit with each other about industry issues and life in general. Overall, a fun ladies' day out. They say group signings aren't good because they are more intimidating for the customer but I think single author signings are just as intimidating. Some people just don't like talking to strangers but the folks we encountered that day were all gracious and inquisitive.

A Law of Her Own is #1 in the Cactus Rose Line at TWRP

A Law of Her Own, a Minature Cactus Rose is my second attempt at a short story. The first, Desires of the Heart is a Minature Vintage Rose and is due out March 4, 2009. Writing short stories has been loads of fun and a huge learning experience for me.

Both are time travels. Desires of the Heart is set in post WW II UK and A Law of Her Own is in the Texas Panhandle in 1888. At present I'm working on another that takes place in the Texas oil fields in the 1930s.

Here is a short blurb for A Law of Her Own.

She won't let an innocent man hang—

When Charity Dawson resigns her father's corporate law firm to pursue a career as a trial lawyer she gets more of a change than she wanted. She finds herself transported to 1888 Texas in the middle of a murder trial.

Turner Reardon is on trial for the murder of his mistress. He's given up all hope when an oddly dressed young woman disrupts his trial claiming she's a lawyer and can prove his innocence. Her testimony is brilliant but, his optimism is short lived when her evidence is tossed out.

Charity doesn't know how she arrived in Prairie, and no one believes she actually went to law school. Her evidence is disregarded and Turner is sentenced to hang. She has only one chance to save an innocent man's life and find the real killer.

Author Comment:

Question: What do you get when you cross a New York lawyer with an old fashioned cowboy?

Answer: A rollicking good read with sparks the size of Texas. Linda LaRoque hits the bulls eye dead on in this fast paced story that’s sure to please.

Horror for Halloween! CODE 30 is Now Available!

CODE 30
Tales of Supernatural Horror
by Gail Smith
Tease Publishing(ebook)
Word Count: 33.3K
Order here:
http://allromanceebooks.com/product-code30-11805-140.html

Hello. My name is Alexis Hembree and I’m a cop. My partner and I are good at our jobs. Except we don’t tend to work what others would call a "normal" police beat. For some reason we draw evil toward us like flies to sugar.
Sometimes there are things in this world we can’t explain or anticipate. And when they happen, when they show up, when they cross that line between their world and ours, we have to deal with them as best we can. It’s our job to stop them. Even if it may cost us our lives.

303 Lexington Street
It was a crack house. Except, in this case, drug dealers went in but didn’t come out. Not alive. In body bags. What’s more, if everyone who went inside ended up being shredded to death, who was doing the killing?

Georgie Porgie
The killer targeted women. Young, old, prostitutes, business women, it didn’t matter. One moment they would be walking down the sidewalk in the middle of town, and the next what was left of their bodies would be found in a nearby alleyway. Devoured. That’s why I had to be the next one to walk the streets. To draw out whoever was doing this. To be his next victim.

The Farewell
He murdered young girls by crucifying them with ice picks. He was slick, elusive, and heading for our city. My partner and I were damned and determined this murderer would get no further. Unfortunately I couldn’t keep my head on the job. But neither could I ignore the weird-ass dreams I was having about this deviate. This case was becoming more personal, more foreboding, and more dangerous with each passing day. And there was no damn way I could avoid what I dreamt would the final outcome.

HEARTFAST is PRN's Top Pick for September!

PNR Reviewer's "Top Pick" for September, 2008!

Master Hunter and StarLight have worked together for over 2 years. They know more about each other than they know about themselves. Brought together by the Handfast monthly lottery, these two Guardians of their planet are sworn to stay together until a child is conceived or to the end of one year; whichever happens first. Little do they know this is part of a plot to destroy the Guardians and all they stand for.

Assisting each other in saving other planets, battling the Ombirta ships and finding time to make love is the least of their worries. The plot to destroy the Guardians, along with the entire planet is coming closer and closer to Master Hunter and StarLight.

This book was wonderful! The characters were well developed and each of their personalities came through as a main part of the story. The plot was planned out perfectly to keep the reader's attention and the addition of characters along the way was a pleasant surprise. Well worth the time to read - which won't be too long, as you won't be able to put it down!

An OUTSTANDING READ from Simply Romance Reviews
HeartFast was not just a satisfying romance, it was also a mind-teasing mystery and science fiction read as well. Visual imagery was well written, and the mystery surrounding the unsanctioned handfast skillfully told. While I can usually figure out what's coming, this story kept me guessing to the end.
Emotionally conveyed, StarLight and Master Hunter's story was equally touching, painful and poignant to read. I look forward to further stories in this new series.

A special (concerned) note

To all my readers and readers everywhere:

Technology is an incredible medium. We can read, draw, learn, speak and see so much thanks to the advances of modern technology. The basic computer and keyboard. However, in the instance of authors, it's also becoming a means to lose our very livelihood. We write, and those written words are being stolen. By the billions, if not trillions, of words. This has been happening for years and is a growing concern. A hugely growing concern.

There is no excuse for theft, yet pirate sites are appearing out of the blue like any other source of information. They may be innocuous to start, but once the first book is posted, uploaded, downloaded, read, it is done. That author has lost revenue. And not just the author, but every person in the production chain. Just because it is on a site, does not make it legal. Car theft, identity theft, downloading copyrighted material. They are equal. They are all theft. (Public domain books [Shakespeare etc.] are a different explanation.)

Please purchase books only through reputable stores and sites. If you see any book from any author on a forum, a database, or a sharing site, please do not download that book. Report the site to the author directly. Most authors have free reads, full books, chapters, all sorts of reading material readily available to the public. Many run contests, or give away free reads. Almost any book can be found in a library, a bookstore or through a used bookstore.

Theft is still theft, no matter the excuse. Respect any author's right to earn a living.

Want Menage? La Petite Mort is Now Available from Red Rose Publishing!

La Petite Mort, a scorching little erotic fantasy by Carolyn Gregg, is now available from Red Rose Publishing.com!

http://redrosepublishing.com/bookstore/product_info.php?products_id=219

Bria had just one wish, one desperate desire, and the only place she would be able to have it come true would be at the annual Midnight Fantasies Masquerade Ball. It would be interesting to see if, given enough money, the hosts truly granted everyone’s wildest fantasy, as they promised, or if it was just meaningless hype.

After all, how many women attending wanted to die at the automated “hand” of a sex machine?

Scent of Lavender by Teri Thackston, from Cerridwen Press

Scent of Lavender Released Today!

My newest ebook, Scent of Lavender, is available for download from Cerridwen Press. This is my second paranormal romance and I hope you’ll find it as eerie and romantic as the first. And for my fellow Texans, the story is set in our very own Hill Country area, complete with whispering oak trees and murmuring creeks, scorching afternoon sunlight and spine-chilling twilight, and a spooky old Victorian house with more than its share of secrets.

For those of you who haven’t yet tried reading a book in digital form, I hope you’ll give this one a try. Short of working in a book store or library, there’s no more convenient way to get your hands on a good book. Ebooks are always just a few clicks of your mouse away.
To tempt you, here’s a brief excerpt:

He snapped off the lights and stepped into the shadowy foyer. The silence of night seemed suddenly to intensify.

Trying to ignore his own growing awareness of the space around him, Rob crossed the foyer. The bottom half of the staircase lay in shadow, catching only a dim glow from the bare bulb at the head of the stairs. Watching that shadow, he hesitated briefly. But nothing happened. No sound intruded in the silence of the house. No numbing chill came over him.

With difficulty, he took another step toward the stairs. Thus far he’d sensed no threat from the spirit, only joy when she’d stood on the front porch and a lingering sadness upstairs the following dawn. And once he’d smelled something like burning tobacco near the stairs. But other than by her mere existence, she’d never given him any reason to be afraid.

Gripping the banister, he pulled himself up the staircase. Faded, threadbare carpet, once deep burgundy with hunter green ivy crisscrossing its width, hugged the center of the staircase and muffled his footsteps as he ascended. Then, taking his weight, the fourth tread gave slightly and popped.

Startled by the unexpected sound, Rob stopped again. He’d been up and down the stairs dozens of times in the past few days and never heard a sound out of them. Uneasiness crept over him. When he tried to take another step, he couldn’t. Dread filled him, holding him in place, weighing inside his chest like shredded iron. His chill intensified, too, fermenting from the inside out until his body was one big block of ice. Determined to break past it, he lifted one foot and dragged it up to the next step.

Another step popped about halfway up the staircase. For the next several seconds the weight of that cold and dread pressed upon him with unbearable power, almost driving him over the edge of panic.

And then suddenly, it lifted. As if a heavy woolen cloak had been whipped off his shoulders, Rob was free.

Not stopping to analyze what had happened, he charged up the stairs, around the upper rail and down the corridor toward the front bedroom doorway.

The open bedroom doorway.

Rob stumbled to a halt. He’d carried some painting supplies inside earlier in the evening. When he’d left, he’d pulled the door closed behind him. He was certain he’d heard the tumbler click into place. Now the door stood wide open.

Standing two feet outside the threshold, Rob peered reluctantly into the room. Moonlight and shadow peered back quietly, as if waiting for him to enter.

He took another step and stopped in the doorway. Nothing moved inside the dark room. No whisper drifted in the air. No unnatural chill wafted around him. That sense of dread he’d experienced on the stairs might never have existed. And yet something made him hesitate to go farther.

It was one thing to face a spirit on a seemingly empty street corner in a distant land. It was quite another to have one occupy his home, making its presence known at will.

Cautiously, he reached inside the room, gripped the doorknob and pulled the door closed. He paid attention, listening hard as the tumbler clicked solidly into place.

Releasing the doorknob, he took a single step backward, then reached forward and brushed the wood with his fingertips. The door didn’t budge.

He pressed his palm against it, harder and harder, until his full weight leaned into it. But the door didn’t give even a fraction of an inch, so solidly had it moved into position.

Lowering his arm, he tried once more to convince himself that Lily had been right, that his imagination had simply gotten the better of his common sense. Maybe that dark shape in the old photograph had been a shadow or a long-forgotten neighbor standing in the deepening dusk. Maybe he had been asleep in the hammock Saturday night. Maybe he had dreamed the woman on the porch and, later, the quiet sighs that had drifted through the house. Maybe he’d imagined all that he’d felt tonight. Maybe Aunt Anna had been temporarily crazy when she’d thought she’d seen Lillian years after her death.

Maybe heavy wooden doors could slip their latches and swing open on their own.
Stepping back from the closed door, Rob turned and walked up the hallway to his bedroom…

And decided to sleep with the lights on.

Latest review of The Phoenix Agency Series

From Bitten by the Book

Always On My Mind
I absolutely loved this book! I’m not normally one for military thrillers but this one just grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. There is so much going on within the story, but not so much that you can’t keep up. Not only do you get the story from Faith and Mark’s point of view, but you also see inside the heads of some of the various players in the conspiracy. I liked that because you get a better idea of what is going on and who is involved. Granted, you don’t find out the identities of the traitors till the end but that’s good. It makes you wonder and think about who it could be. It does, however, make writing a review somewhat of a challenge. I didn’t want to give too much away but trust me; you’ll want to read Always On My Mind!
AVAILABLE AT AMAZON, BARNES & NOBLE, ALIBRIS, BOOKS-A-MILLION

Visions of Darkness
Visions Of Darkness is an action packed ride from beginning to end. I’m so glad this is a series as I have really enjoyed getting to know each partner in the Phoenix Agency. This story in particular contains twists and turns that you won’t expect. While I did figure out early on who one of the conspirators were, I was completely clueless about the second. Even with that though, there were still things that I did not see coming and I like that. This is a great series that I highly recommend and gladly give it five tombstones.
