On their first anniversary, Yulen is making plans to surprise Atty with a celebration unlike anything she's ever experienced. All of Alta Novis is preparing to honor their Battle Lord and Lady with pomp and pageantry never before seen.

Representatives from Wallis and West Crestin are expected to attend, as well as the Battle Lords from other neighboring compounds. Word has spread for miles, attracting well-wishers and the curious to make the journey to join in the festivities.

News of the couple has also reached the ears of the Battle Lord of Alta Seran. And for the first time in his life, he is determined to win back what is rightfully his by birth. What's more, he will see to it that the treaties forged with the Mutah compounds are destroyed forever.

Before the week is over, Rafe D'Jacques will become the new Battle Lord of Alta Novis, even if he has to kill his half-brother to own it. And Atty... Well, everyone knows that the only good Mutah is a dead Mutah.

Warning: Contains a reckless teenager, a doll with button eyes, devious guests, unrequited love, feast or famine, torture, a week long festival, assassination attempts, hellish relatives, tannic acid, and a three-way attack by fire, coup, and Bloods that could leave Alta Novis in ruins.

New Release from Missy Jane!

It's release day!! Today marks the release of my sixth ebook from Ellora's Cave Publishing. However, this one is a little different. It's being released from their Blush line and isn't as erotic as my previous books. It is still very much a love story, though a short one, and I hope you like these two characters as much as I do.

Austin and Wednesday have been friends for years. He values their friendship, though he’s horrible at showing it, and she loves him more deeply than she’s willing to admit. When he discovers she’s never celebrated a birthday, he plans a special night for just the two of them. Too bad he forgets to show up.

Wednesday has always been the Mistress of Denial. But this time she’s had it. Austin is not good for her, so she packs up and moves on. Now that Austin knows what he’s lost he’s not willing to let her go. And it’s going to take every trick in his arsenal to prove his love and win back Wednesday.

A Blush® romance from Ellora’s Cave

Blush sensuality level: This is a suggestive romance (love scenes are not graphic).

Danelius is an incubus. His job is to engage in sex with mortal women as they sleep, drawing them into his snare and condemning their souls. He’s damn good at what he does, and it doesn’t matter that he’s quite proud of the fact that his record is practically spotless. After all, isn’t pride one of the better deadly sins?

But when his last job goes awry, and he subsequently pisses off the Devil, Danelius finds himself in serious straits. For one, he’s kicked out of Hell and ordered to find a pure soul to replace the sinner he lost. For another, he has no place to go and no place to stay.

Stripped of his powers, naked, and freezing his delectable buns off, Danelius suddenly discovers that being mortal hurts. It’s even worse when he’s rescued by Gemma, and soon thereafter realizes he’s falling in love with her.

It's when he discovers the true purpose of his exile that Danelius realizes he no longer wants anything to do with Hell or the Old Man. He wants to remain a mortal with Gemma for whatever time they have left of their lives.

"Mommy, tell me a story. A fairy story."

Jill has a very real fairy story to tell her daughter. Actually she has two: the one she recites at bedtime and the one that is the truth.

Once upon a time there was a faerie whose life was contained in the forest lands of northern Maine. But when unscrupulous loggers began to cut down the trees which were the lifeblood of her people, she was ordered to take human form and find a way to stop them by using human means.

Caine York worked for the US Forestry Service. The last thing he needed was a tree rights activist like Jill Lattimer tagging along. Yet as the days went by he found himself unable to resist the woman's uninhibited spirit.

Unfortunately, Jill was also finding herself falling in love with the forest ranger. The human forest ranger. A man her people would never allow her to be with once they found out.

She would soon find herself fighting to stay with the man who had captured her heart, just as Caine would struggle to have the woman he can not live without. Together they will fight to keep their beloved woods safe from deforestation, knowing that sooner or later one of them would have to lose everything they held dear.

Warning: Contains horrendous weather, big bad humans, lightning from a stick, sex with wings, explosions, drone surveillance, barefoot nymphs, gunfire, and one very recalcitrant child.

Mark's Crush - A new short story serial

Mark Palastine lives across from a neighbor who will change his life. A man he's only seen, and crushed on, in images, a model by the name of Jimmy Saldana. When Mark is an unfortunate witness to the meltdown of Jimmy's love life through the personality mags, his heart goes out to the other man.

And then they meet...

Excerpt:
Mark saw Jimmy a couple more times that week, but only once with his boyfriend, thankfully. Once he was walking around the living room talking on his cell phone in just underwear. That fueled dreams and fantasies for days! After the first week, Mark began to feel bad always looking for Jimmy. It wasn’t right. He should have privacy in his own home, except…

Jimmy never closed those damned blinds! Never! Mark swore a blue streak when he caught a flash of skin and like a bad wreck couldn’t help but watch as the two men chased each other around the apartment with cans of silly string. So he wasn’t just a boyfriend, he was a friend.

After two months of it, Mark had convinced himself to ease off on the obsession. Jimmy was out of his league and always would be. He didn’t have any more voyeur episodes either. He actually felt pretty good about that. If Jimmy was free-spirited and an exhibitionist, it didn’t mean Mark had to watch, even if he knew he’d love it.

Then something changed. Walking past the newsstand on his daily commute from work, he spotted the screaming in font headline on the cover of one of the tell-all rags. “Patton Vorga engaged!” Mark’s mouth fell open. He’d never known the man’s name, hadn’t cared. But the man in the picture next to the obviously pregnant woman was Jimmy’s boyfriend!

Usually oblivious to the snark and gossip, he bought the tattle-tale newspaper and stuffed it into his messenger bag, scurrying with the crowd to get home now to read it.

Inside his apartment, he plopped down to his couch and ripped it open to the right page, reading. There was usually a nugget of suspicion if not full truth in any gossip, and if she was carrying Patton’s child… Mark bit his lip, his stomach heaving. He leaped to his feet and rushed to the window.

Jimmy wasn’t home. God, as much as he wanted Jimmy, he didn’t want him hurt, and if this was true… After five minutes, and no sign of life in the other apartment, he left to change out of his work attire. He tossed the crumpled newsprint on his bed and stripped to an A-shirt and gym shorts. He’d relax then go for his evening run. He was sure everything was okay with Jimmy. No, it wasn’t Mark that would comfort him, but he had to believe the gossip rag was just speculating. Jimmy was an upstanding guy, charitable worker and had never been slandered.

Mark shook his head. “You know way too much about that guy,” he muttered. He just didn’t want to see Jimmy crushed by an asshole.

He balled up the newspaper and tossed the pages into the recycle bin, calling it done then spun to gather his keys to go run. And was stopped in his tracks by the flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye.

Jimmy was home. He was storming back and forth across his living room, vanishing into his bedroom then reappearing, as though the lavish apartment was just too small to contain him. The phone was plastered to his ear and he was gesturing broadly and angrily.

“Oh, hell.” Mark paused by his fishbowl window and watched the world beyond. The agony was clear even through the distance. Mark’s chest ached with the pain he knew the guy was enduring.

Jimmy froze in the living room and shouted into the phone then threw it. A heartbeat later, he followed in the same direction only to return with the trashcan in hand. One, two, three photo frames were pitched into the can.

Mark put his hand to the glass. “Oh, baby,” he breathed. “I’d never do that to you.”

They are the cause of many legends, myths, and fairy tales. And they still live among us.

Arik Hawthorne preferred to be a loner. He had a dark secret to protect, and as a professional kick boxer, he was able to work off the wild energy that filled his life.

His whole world changed when he was partnered with Corinth Marya, and they were ordered to find and stop the creature that was killing innocent people in New Mexico.

If going after the Breacher wasn't bad enough, he found himself seriously and dangerously attracted to the army lieutenant. There was no way he could let her find out about his real self, but neither could he deny the possibility that she may be his one and only chance at love and happiness.

They never foresaw the danger that would threaten their lives, or the passion that would pose an even greater problem.

Dragons, anyone?

Oh Spring, Where Art Thou?

At the time of me writing this post, it’s cold and wet outside. Here in Houston we just had a week of beautiful eighty degree days and now winter has returned. Next week is Spring Break, which seems like a cruel joke. Usually I take the kids on an annual road trip for Spring Break. We drive up into the hill country, go through Brenham, and see Texas wildflowers all along our route. I love bluebonnets and always take the time to get pictures of my girls within a sea of blue. I have a feeling that won’t be happening this year. For one thing there are no wildflowers out yet anywhere. For another, I’m allowing my oldest to travel to New Orleans with her boss’ family. Yeah I’m kind of terrified.

So, this will probably be a quiet Spring Break spent close to home. We have two different projects to finish between my two youngest, and I’ve got a ridiculous amount of writing to catch up on. By the time this posts it will all be over. So, how is your Spring coming along?

Leaving a comment will get you entered to win your choice from my back list! I’ll choose a winner tomorrow morning via random.org. Please add your email address to your comment. Plus, all commenters will be thrown into the hat for the grand prize drawing at the end of my tour. You could win a Missy Jane tote full of gently used books. Good luck!

Here’s a peek at my newest release:

He loves me, he loves me not. He loves me…okay, the truth is he doesn’t really like me right now, but I have a plan to change his mind. I see the way he looks at me with heat in his eyes. Sean Maxwell might be a confirmed bachelor, but a taste of Ms. Megan Nettle is just what he needs to soften his hard exterior. And once I get him in my bed, he won’t want to leave. There’s nothing some hot lovin’ can’t fix.

But my persistence backfires when he decides he’s too dangerous for little ole me. Something in his past is driving a wedge between us, and he’s determined to stay away. That’s not going to happen. This calls for some serious seduction. I’ll use those sparks between us to melt away his rule of two dates max.

Missy Jane's New Release!

Today I have a new release!! Two Dates Max is the sequel to Two-Week Trial. If you've read the first then you're familiar with Sean Maxwell, Mari's boss in retail hell. If not, check out the excerpt to get a taste of what he's like:

“Hey, Sean. Here a little early today, huh?”
One thick brow lifted in surprise but the scowl remained. I batted my eyelashes playfully in an attempt to make him smile, but he just rolled his eyes.
“I left work early,” he growled.
“Oh? Everything okay in the world of retail?”
He looked conflicted, as if he couldn’t decide on whether to actually talk to me or not. I didn’t know why every conversation had to be a battle with him, but we were finally making progress and I wasn’t willing to give it up.
“Yeah. No… I don’t know. I’m just a little stressed out right now.”
My smile melted into genuine concern and I placed a hand on the fist he held clenched against the countertop. He looked down at my hand but didn’t pull away.
“You know, there usually isn’t anyone in the hot tub at this hour. Why don’t you lay off the weights today and go relax?”
When his gaze returned to mine there was genuine surprise. He unclenched his fist and turned his hand up, twining our fingers for one heart-stopping moment.
“That’s a great idea. Thanks, Megan.”
I smiled and slipped my hand from his to grab a towel. The loss of his skin against mine was like a slap but it was worth it to see appreciation in his gaze. He took the towel with a nod of thanks and walked away. My heart started beating again and I remembered to breathe. Something was weighing heavily on his mind and I wanted to know how to make it go away. A glance at the clock showed ten minutes until my replacement arrived. I usually left the gym right after working an early shift to go to the bookstore. I could spend hours there and usually more money than was wise, but it’s my only vice. This time I decided to stay and take a dip in the hot tub. After all, I needed some downtime too.
Twenty minutes later I peeked around the corner of the wall separating the women’s locker room from the coed pool area. The hot tub was on the other end of the room, so Sean would see me coming. I adjusted the straps on my one-piece, black bathing suit, wishing for the millionth time I had Elle’s body. I naturally kept in shape being an employee of the gym, but I’d always been athletic. Years of softball, volleyball and soccer had given me a teenage boy’s figure rather than a voluptuous woman’s. There wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it without surgery so I tried hard not to care.
Sean had his back to me, lounging in the hot tub with the jets on high. His eyes were closed and my bare feet made almost no sound. We were alone, though there were two men in the pool swimming laps. I entered the water slowly so my body could acclimate to the higher temperature. It was divine. I didn’t normally take time to enjoy most of the gym’s perks, but this was one time I just couldn’t stay away.
I must have splashed or gasped, or something to announce my presence, because when I looked up from taking the final step into the water Sean’s intense blue gaze was on me. I froze and smiled weakly, my nerves going into overdrive at joining him uninvited. Was I being too bold after barely getting him to agree on the barbecue? He remained silent with a blank look on his face as I took a seat opposite him, a full leg’s length away. I’d piled my dark-brown hair into a haphazard knot at the top of my head. It’s so thin, I usually can’t get it to stay in a neat braid. I silently prayed it didn’t look too messy.
Mmmm, this feels great, huh? Definitely relaxing,” I said.
He didn’t reply and I fought to keep my natural smile in place. I made a show of looking around, as if seeing the pool area for the first time. I didn’t come in here often, so it wasn’t completely for show. Sean didn’t say a word or move a muscle.
An eternity later, in reality only about seven minutes, the two men in the pool left. Sean and I were completely alone, but I didn’t expect to stay that way in the middle of the afternoon. I lounged back against the hot tub and clasped my hands behind my head, closing my eyes. I was actually relaxing and enjoying the solitude when something brushed my foot. I opened one eye to see Sean standing and my pulse leapt. I wanted to jump up and grab him but decided looking that desperate was uncalled for. If he wanted to leave, fine.
I let my lid drop back down and he brushed against my calf. I’m on the short side, so I didn’t understand how my legs could possibly be in his way. However, if Sean wanted to touch my bare skin I was all for it. Even after that thought, his rough hands on my upper thighs jerked me fully upright. My eyes flew open and were filled with his lightly furred chest. I looked up to see him well within my personal space, and slowly inching slower. My breath caught in my lungs and I watched in fascination as his gaze zeroed in on my lips and stayed there. He was going to kiss me and I was going to let him.
All rational thought disappeared the moment his lips touched mine. I didn’t give a damn about being in a public place, where I worked and could potentially be seen by my boss. I wrapped my arms around Sean’s neck and pulled him in tight, afraid to let go when I finally had him where I needed him. He didn’t seem to want to escape as he explored my mouth with his expert tongue. His taste, mint and coffee, filled my senses and I moaned in delight.
His hands had moved to my hips and he tightened his grip to pin me in place. I wasn’t going anywhere, but his forcefulness ratcheted up my arousal and I wrapped my legs around his hips. He finally pulled back but didn’t try to move away. I caught my breath and looked up into his eyes.
“I really needed that,” he whispered.

If you had only one more day to live, what would you do? Corwin knows. And no one and nothing is going to stop him from the telling the woman he has loved silently and from afar how much he cares for her.

***
The bouquet he held was silk. Finding actual flowers was nearly impossible, and he wasn't going to waste another minute searching for a florist and spending useless money on the real thing. That is, if there were any florists and flowers left. He was lucky he had purchased these on a whim just prior to hell breaking loose.

Corwin stared down at himself. The fresh blue t-shirt he'd donned before coming over here was already soaked with sweat, as were his jeans. Perspiration rolled down his face, and his head felt like it was going to explode. Standing in the meager shadow provided by the porch did little to keep the stifling heat from penetrating all the way to the marrow of his bones, to suck out every last drop of moisture from his body. There was no wind. It was over one hundred twenty degrees Fahrenheit, and climbing.
And it was around the middle of December, a week before Christmas.

He stood in front of the white door and stared at the slim, rectangular doorbell embedded in the wall. There was no knocker. Just a small cut glass window for people to peer through. A quick glance at his watch told him it was already past ten p.m., but the world was as bright as noon. Taking a deep breath, he raised his fist and knocked instead.

After a few seconds of silence, he knocked again. This time a surprised face looked out the window, spotted him, and her eyes widened further. There was the sound of a deadbolt lock sliding back, and the door opened a few inches.

Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Loose hairs were plastered to her face and neck from her own sweat. There was the awkward silence, then she spoke.

"Corwin?"

"Hi, Sadie."

"What are you doing here?"

Holding out the handful of silk flowers, Corwin watched as she glanced down at them. "I came to give you these and wish you a Merry Christmas. And to tell you goodbye."
