A Contemporary Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Romance
by Linda Mooney
Word Count: 46.7K
$3.99 e / $10.99 p

Nurse Ivy Domberg, along with the rest of the world, watched as the Magellan spacecraft launched into space for a top-secret mission to the moon. She would miss her husband while he was gone, but he’d be back before she knew it.

No one expected those two short weeks to turn into years.

The day the spaceship disappeared, Earth was hit with a blinding light, and life hasn’t been the same since. Every female is now sterile, human and creatures alike. Insects, reptiles, fish, and birds are becoming extinct. Same for all animals as none of them are able to reproduce. Meat, eggs, and milk, as well as grain and vegetable crops, are growing scarce. It’s only a matter of time before the world’s population is completely wiped from the face of the Earth, either from starvation, old age, or both.

During this time, Ivy refused to believe her astronaut husband Skeet was dead. But when the Magellan inexplicably returns with its crew somehow alive, is it a coincidence alien ships are spotted on the same day? Were the aliens responsible for their disappearance, as well as the chaos on Earth?

Even as a possible interstellar war looms on the horizon, Ivy’s nurse instincts kick in when she discovers a lone creature lying near a road. A creature not from Earth. A creature who appears to have just given birth. Seeing the infant, Ivy can’t ignore the alien’s plight, no matter the species. Regardless of the devastation they may have brought to the planet, a mother’s love for her baby is universal.

And it just might save the world.

Warning! Contains a jar of eggs, a devastating loss, plant-based meat, paying in cash, fake hot chocolate, and two people whose love and resilience gives them the hope and faith they need to survive.

If you had only one more day to live, what would you do? Corwin knows. And no one and nothing is going to stop him from the telling the woman he has loved silently and from afar how much he cares for her.

***
The bouquet he held was silk. Finding actual flowers was nearly impossible, and he wasn't going to waste another minute searching for a florist and spending useless money on the real thing. That is, if there were any florists and flowers left. He was lucky he had purchased these on a whim just prior to hell breaking loose.

Corwin stared down at himself. The fresh blue t-shirt he'd donned before coming over here was already soaked with sweat, as were his jeans. Perspiration rolled down his face, and his head felt like it was going to explode. Standing in the meager shadow provided by the porch did little to keep the stifling heat from penetrating all the way to the marrow of his bones, to suck out every last drop of moisture from his body. There was no wind. It was over one hundred twenty degrees Fahrenheit, and climbing.
And it was around the middle of December, a week before Christmas.

He stood in front of the white door and stared at the slim, rectangular doorbell embedded in the wall. There was no knocker. Just a small cut glass window for people to peer through. A quick glance at his watch told him it was already past ten p.m., but the world was as bright as noon. Taking a deep breath, he raised his fist and knocked instead.

After a few seconds of silence, he knocked again. This time a surprised face looked out the window, spotted him, and her eyes widened further. There was the sound of a deadbolt lock sliding back, and the door opened a few inches.

Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Loose hairs were plastered to her face and neck from her own sweat. There was the awkward silence, then she spoke.

"Corwin?"

"Hi, Sadie."

"What are you doing here?"

Holding out the handful of silk flowers, Corwin watched as she glanced down at them. "I came to give you these and wish you a Merry Christmas. And to tell you goodbye."

New! A DIFFERENT YESTERDAY by Linda Mooney

A DIFFERENT YESTERDAY

An erotic sci-fi/apocalyptic/futuristic romance novel
(ebook) ISBN# 978-1-60313-841-3

The Apocalypse.

It didn't come because of man's inhumanity to man. It didn't come from bombs, or plague, or even from aliens descending from outer space. In fact, no one knows what triggered it. And even if they did, there was no way to turn back time.

Only one thing was certain. One evening the sun had grown unexpectedly bigger and hotter, and heat and radiation unlike anything ever experienced washed over the Earth, bathing it in searing rays that devoured over three-quarters of the world's population.

Now the sun is smaller, and it doesn't radiate as much heat as it used to. The world is colder. Food is scarce, and people are fighting to stay alive.

Andrew Michael Tollson, aka "The Silent Wraith", was a man who roamed from settlement to outpost to city, offering his protection from scavengers and renegades. Years ago, right before the sun had exploded, when he had been a boy growing up in a small Texas town, he had felt his first crush for the little tomboy he knew as Jo. Now, as a grown man, he has finally made his way back to his boyhood home to see if Jo is still alive, or if she has been a victim of the Apocalypse. He has to know if the dreams and memories he has harbored were mere fantasies, or if the infatuation he'd felt then has grown into something else, something stronger and more tangible.

JoBeth Wythe was a member of The Triad, three leaders who protected their little settlement, and tried to recall the carefree days before the Apocalypse. All they wanted was the chance at a decent life, with enough food, some shared warmth, and a little hope for the future. She had never forgotten the pudgy little kid who had followed her around when she was growing up, the little boy she called Mikey. Every time she thought of him, it only brought back pain and a wistfulness for a past that no longer existed.

For Drew and Jo, it was only a matter of time before they would be reunited to fight together. To survive together. And to discover that the innocent kisses they had shared as children had grown into a love that would overwhelm them with desire.

Warning! Contains permanent extreme cold, love everlasting, survivalists, separation, a legend in the making, a brutal mass murder, forever friends, loss of virginity, and the end of the world as we know it.
