Qitirin

Scarred and traumatized, ex-Marine Sergeant Joshua Cobb can no longer function amid normal civilization. He's retreated to the mountains of Alaska to live in solitude, where he can battle his personal demons in peace.

He has no idea that the injured wolf he rescues will become more than a companion. It will also save his life, and show him a love he only believed was possible in fairy tales.

Slash

Officer Sonia Sparrow is an introvert of sorts, spending her workdays on the force, and her off days alone. But lately it seems she’s acquired a new partner. A dog, that she’s dubbed Slash, keeps showing up in the nick of time to save the day.

Having been burned in love once before, he’s vowed to never show his other side to anyone else. Instead. he chooses to spend his life roaming the country and not getting close to anyone. Breachers: Trott and Mendlaw
Book 5 of the Breachers Series
Contemporary Paranormal/Fantasy Romance
by Linda Mooney
Word Count: 42K
$3.99 e / $10.99 p

Male Breachers are being murdered. More specifically, something’s exploding from the inside out. What on earth is happening? Is it murder? Or a birth, of sorts? And if it’s a type of grisly birth, who or what is being born? Furthermore, where are the babies?

Olmsly Morrow calls in Clay Trott and Davida Mendlaw. Both are Breachers of the purest bloodlines, and he feels there’s no one better to solve the deaths of their fellow Breachers. The problem is that Clay’s and Davida’s species are mortal enemies and have been for years. It’s an eons’ long prejudice that has been passed down through generations. But they’re not on the old planet anymore. They’ve never even set foot on it. So why are their species still fighting?

As the investigation gets more and more complicated, gut instincts are telling Davida and Clay that not all good guys are good. They’re having to keep things close to the vest to solve the mystery of these deaths. With Breacher numbers declining, they must put the past behind them and work together if they’re to save their kind from extinction.

And if this case wasn’t harrowing enough, Clay and Davida are also having to deal with their growing feelings, knowing that, in the end, it will never work out. It's a realization that almost tears them apart.

Warning! Contains a strawberry milkshake, thirty-nine years, gut feelings, apples, illegal experimentation, a pure bloodline, slimy afterbirth, and two people fighting against years of indoctrination when they discover their true feelings for each other.

New Anthology Featuring Missy Jane!

It's release day! And for the first time I get to share it with three other authors. I'm in a new anthology out today from Just Ink Press called Into the Darkness. This is something kind of different from my other work, a short story that is more paranormal than anything else. There isn't exactly a romantic thread and definitely no hot sex in this one, but I hope y'all like it anyway. ;-)

Here's the blurb:

Ignorance is Bliss by Missy Jane

Discovering your boyfriend has been unfaithful is never easy, but for Natalie it’s a complete shocker. As if his confession of infidelity isn't bad enough, suddenly everyone she meets is telling her their deep, dark secrets. She soon realizes the trinket she bought at the flea market is more than a harmless lump of metal. Now she has to decide if always knowing the truth is worth the heartache or if ignorance is truly bliss.

There are also three other stories by three fabulous authors: Shannon Mayer, R.C. Murphy, and N. L. Gervasio.
So, what are you waiting for? Go forth and get your copy here!

New! CODE 30 by Gail Smith (Linda Mooney w/a)

CODE 30
A novella of paranormal horror
by Gail Smith (Linda Mooney w/a)
From Red Rose Publishing
Word Count: 33.3K

Hi. My name is Alexis Hembree, and I’m a cop. My partner and I are good at our jobs, except we don’t tend to work what others would call a “normal” beat. For some reason we draw evil to us like flies to sugar.

Sometimes there are things in this world we can’t explain or anticipate. But when they cross that line between their existence and ours, when they show up, we have to deal with them as best we can.

Some cops fight criminals. We fight something that never should have existed.

303 Lexington St.

It was a crack house. Except, in this case, drug dealers went in but they didn’t come out. Not alive, anyway, but in body bags. What’s more, if everyone who went inside ended up being shredded to death, who was doing the killing?

Georgie Porgie

The killer targeted women. Young, old, prostitutes, business women, it didn’t matter. One moment they would be walking down the sidewalk in the middle of town, and the next what was left of their bodies would be found in a nearby alleyway. Devoured. That’s why I had to be the next one to walk the streets. To draw out whoever was doing this. To be his next victim.

The Goodbye

He murdered young girls by crucifying them with ice picks. He was slick, elusive, and heading for our city. My partner and I were damned and determined this murderer would get no further. Unfortunately I couldn’t keep my head on the job. Neither could I ignore the weird-ass dreams I was having about this deviate. This case was becoming more personal, more foreboding, and more dangerous with each passing day. And there was no damn way I could avoid what I dreamed would be the final outcome.

Excerpt:

Curran’s head ached and his mouth was dry. His room smelled dry and stuffy. He needed to air out his condo again. Rolling over, he tossed an arm upward to capture his free range pillow. Thunder filled the morning. Great. It was Saturday, maybe he’d just stay in bed.
Only…that wasn’t his pillow under his hand. Heavy wool scratched his back and hips as he shifted to find a comfortable position. When had his mattress ever felt so flat? Flexing his fingers, he stroked something hard…hard and stone. Stone?
Blinking, he jerked up on stiff arms and froze.
*! We’re not in Kansas anymore. Focusing, he examined his space. Stone walls soared all around him. Flat masonry with dedicated religious carvings, and a single slit window well overhead. He was in some kind of sleeping quarters. Listening, that wasn’t thunder either, but the sound of marching. Thousands marching.
Swallowing with uncertainty, he sat on the edge of his bed, a single layer ticked cot. He was naked. He shook himself. His mind was only playing with him again. Though, like Bellona speaking the night before, this was far more real, well beyond anything he’d dreamed up over the years. “Easy,” he whispered cautiously.
Only… *!
He wasn’t speaking in English anymore!
Lifting his hands, he scrubbed his face. Callouses surprised him. Shudders rocked his shoulders. Faint sounds reached him through the plank wood door. Apparently the only way in or out of his…space? Cell? God if he knew. He knew in a few minutes it would disappear, or he’d wake up, in his own room. He had to. None of this was real. It never had been. Now was no different.
He believed that for about another fifteen seconds.
Standing he stretched and felt his heart pound again. Now this was too much! That was not his cock! Hell, this isn’t my body! Long and lean at thirty-three, the frame of his body now was anything but the tell-tale make-up of a bland college professor. Holding out his hands and arms, ropes of muscle climbed his arms to broad shoulders. A thick chest and lean waist was held up by muscular thighs, and dark, fine hair coated his skin, from his pecs to his navel.
Trembling, he sank to the edge of the bed where he’d awakened.
Dark hair? But I’m a blonde! Curran whimpered helplessly inside. Closing his eyes, he breathed at a measured pace for several minutes, surprised and grateful when his lungs and chest eased and the fear clenching his heart died away.
Looking over his shoulder, he spotted a wooden table with a wash basin and pottery pitcher. Striding over, he poured clear water into the bowl then splashed his face. A few drops hit his chest and he flicked them off, shaking his hands after dousing himself. Bracing his hands on the wooden edge, he counted. Yet when he opened his eyes, the room was exactly as he’d seen when he’d first awakened. Definitely not home.
“You are so screwed,” he muttered. In Latin. His brain wanted to curl up in a corner and quiver. He clearly remembered dragging his sorry ass to bed last night after his meltdown. Clean sheets and a queen bed. What was he missing? Sweeping the interior space there were no answers, but one definite. This was not his room.

Lauren Murphy, author

Excerpt:

She nudged the wooden door open, slipping in without making any noise. She spotted him, his back to the door, hunched over a table. A blue light was illuminating his shape and a sound, like the hum of a bumblebee reached her.

He was crafting something. An awed shiver hit her skin. She'd rarely seen him do it, but there was something so beautiful in what he could do, how he could manipulate metal to any shape. Biting her lip, keeping quiet to stay undiscovered, she slunk in to watch him.

The piece he was working on was recessed in a well, held up by spokes on a rotating wheel so he could do different sections. There was a faint sheen along his hairline, sweat that attested to his concentration for perfection. Muscles rippled beneath his t-shirt as he moved ever so slowly, a dance of timed orchestration with his hands over the metal blank in the well. His boot heels were hooked to the bottom rung of the simple black stool he sat on, his thighs thick and taut in the press of his faded jeans.

This time she licked her lip rather than bite it, feeling her heart pick up in appreciation of the male form. Black hair was pushed back, nearly to his shoulders. Her fingers tingled remembering it, the way it felt, the heat that had seared her as she'd held on to him.

While he'd kissed me. Her lids fluttered closed, and more than the memory of her hands in his hair returned. She drew a steadying breath, surprised with herself. What was going on? Since when had the sight of Trajan in jeans ever made her feel gooey inside?

The immediate thought of him out of those jeans made her quiver. She swallowed. It had to be that damn kiss. Okay, all of them. The man had something going for him, that was for sure. She'd hoped after he'd left her that morning she'd ensured she'd located all her lost marbles misplaced from their first kiss in her kitchen. From the look of things, and damn but did they look good, her marbles were gone for the duration.

Biceps twitched. The light extinguished and he let out a breath. He reached upward stretching and Shar got a full side view of his torso. He stood and stripped the t-shirt, stretching once more then sat down. Adjusting the rim blank in the frame well then locking it into place again between the spokes, he focused again.

Blood pulsed against her skin, warming her as he began to work. He was beautiful. The sheen on his back made him look god-like. Muscle and sinew moved and danced in unity with the precise motions of his hands. The slow, graceful tension of his hands as they sculpted the image mid-air, coercing his magic to duplicate his wishes into the metal. It was mind over matter and there wasn't an ore or metal on the planet that wouldn't fall to Trajan's persuasion. Some could bend water, or even create heat or freezing cold like her own ability, yet what he did was phenomenally rare among their clan. The sheer creative genius was what created a demand for his work. She knew what he did was strenuous, but the visual looked effortless, as an edge, then a shape on the rim blank began to appear beneath his hands. Pieces fell free with a muted clang as cuts and trims created debris, falling into the basin of the frame.

She hated to disturb him, knowing she should have when he'd stopped. She didn't want him to have an error either because she had to break into his concentration.

Instead of calling out to him, she slowly walked up his side, where he'd see her in his peripheral vision. Closer and closer until she was sure he had to know she was there. His focus was relentless though. He never looked up.

"Trajan?" she whispered.

The light and the precise cutting stopped at the same time he shot out a hand and captured one of hers beneath his.

She squealed in surprise.

He yanked her to his side, pinning her against his taut body. "'Bout time you said something," he growled. The roughness in his voice sparked down her spine like a livewire. He found her chin with his other hand and tipped her up. Before she could speak, he claimed her lips.

The Hanged Man: The Eternal Kiss *
Book one: Shadowed Souls

It's been almost a year since my vampire Diego has seen the light of ...er... night.... LOL

But I'm very happy say that he and his story is out by Tease Publishing as part of the Dark Tarot Imprint! I'm very happy to see this book be available once more!

Available in print now here!

Available now at Fictionwise. On Sale Now!

As part of the imprint series, the covers are representations of a true Tarot deck, and Diego's story is of the Hanged Man. The card reveals sacrifice, selflessness, and solutions to problems that then weren't obvious through his travels. These solutions becomes clear as he acts and reacts to his world. This card lends its meaning to both Diego and Titania.

Welcome to their world.........

Diego Viteri has lived for centuries with only one real goal, to avenge himself against the one who destroyed the man that he was and created the creature he is now. He is suffering a growing loneliness that is becoming impossible to ignore. His only reason for not ending his life is to see that Brakka is served his justice and then, Diego can rest.

The last thing he is expecting is to have an encounter with a human woman who is willing to jump between himself and Brakka during a harsh and bloody battle. Their one meeting changes everything for Diego, bringing to life emotions and wants that he has long believed to be as dead as he is.

As he follows Titania and her band, his needs reshape into something that he can't ignore. Before he knows what he has done, he bonds with her and sets into motion the very thing he swore he would never do to another person. He has shared his curse and in the process may have very well killed her. And there is only one choice to be made to try to save her.

EXCERPT:

He meant it only as a brush of skin, his lips to hers, an exclamation of his growing feelings for her, but the instant his lips found hers, all reasoning deserted him. She was sweet and hot, soft and seductive to his senses.

The earth moved beneath his feet, rocked him to his soul, and he held her tighter to keep himself from flying off into space. Her body matched perfectly to his, meeting his planes and hard angles with the curves and valleys of a woman's body. An unknown urge screamed in his head, and pounded at his temples. To claim her. To make her completely his. To be able to protect her, regardless of time or distance.

He shoved the thought far away. He would never pass on his curse. He would not condemn this woman of compassion to a life of death. Instead of dwelling on the impossible, he shifted his weight, bringing her flush against him. He pushed a hand through the thick weight of her hair, savoring every electric sensation on his skin.

He tasted her lips, nibbling at the corner of her mouth, feeling her breath against his skin, sipping at her lips until she gave in, and he burned.

Scent of Lavender Released Today!

My newest ebook, Scent of Lavender, is available for download from Cerridwen Press. This is my second paranormal romance and I hope you’ll find it as eerie and romantic as the first. And for my fellow Texans, the story is set in our very own Hill Country area, complete with whispering oak trees and murmuring creeks, scorching afternoon sunlight and spine-chilling twilight, and a spooky old Victorian house with more than its share of secrets.

For those of you who haven’t yet tried reading a book in digital form, I hope you’ll give this one a try. Short of working in a book store or library, there’s no more convenient way to get your hands on a good book. Ebooks are always just a few clicks of your mouse away.
To tempt you, here’s a brief excerpt:

He snapped off the lights and stepped into the shadowy foyer. The silence of night seemed suddenly to intensify.

Trying to ignore his own growing awareness of the space around him, Rob crossed the foyer. The bottom half of the staircase lay in shadow, catching only a dim glow from the bare bulb at the head of the stairs. Watching that shadow, he hesitated briefly. But nothing happened. No sound intruded in the silence of the house. No numbing chill came over him.

With difficulty, he took another step toward the stairs. Thus far he’d sensed no threat from the spirit, only joy when she’d stood on the front porch and a lingering sadness upstairs the following dawn. And once he’d smelled something like burning tobacco near the stairs. But other than by her mere existence, she’d never given him any reason to be afraid.

Gripping the banister, he pulled himself up the staircase. Faded, threadbare carpet, once deep burgundy with hunter green ivy crisscrossing its width, hugged the center of the staircase and muffled his footsteps as he ascended. Then, taking his weight, the fourth tread gave slightly and popped.

Startled by the unexpected sound, Rob stopped again. He’d been up and down the stairs dozens of times in the past few days and never heard a sound out of them. Uneasiness crept over him. When he tried to take another step, he couldn’t. Dread filled him, holding him in place, weighing inside his chest like shredded iron. His chill intensified, too, fermenting from the inside out until his body was one big block of ice. Determined to break past it, he lifted one foot and dragged it up to the next step.

Another step popped about halfway up the staircase. For the next several seconds the weight of that cold and dread pressed upon him with unbearable power, almost driving him over the edge of panic.

And then suddenly, it lifted. As if a heavy woolen cloak had been whipped off his shoulders, Rob was free.

Not stopping to analyze what had happened, he charged up the stairs, around the upper rail and down the corridor toward the front bedroom doorway.

The open bedroom doorway.

Rob stumbled to a halt. He’d carried some painting supplies inside earlier in the evening. When he’d left, he’d pulled the door closed behind him. He was certain he’d heard the tumbler click into place. Now the door stood wide open.

Standing two feet outside the threshold, Rob peered reluctantly into the room. Moonlight and shadow peered back quietly, as if waiting for him to enter.

He took another step and stopped in the doorway. Nothing moved inside the dark room. No whisper drifted in the air. No unnatural chill wafted around him. That sense of dread he’d experienced on the stairs might never have existed. And yet something made him hesitate to go farther.

It was one thing to face a spirit on a seemingly empty street corner in a distant land. It was quite another to have one occupy his home, making its presence known at will.

Cautiously, he reached inside the room, gripped the doorknob and pulled the door closed. He paid attention, listening hard as the tumbler clicked solidly into place.

Releasing the doorknob, he took a single step backward, then reached forward and brushed the wood with his fingertips. The door didn’t budge.

He pressed his palm against it, harder and harder, until his full weight leaned into it. But the door didn’t give even a fraction of an inch, so solidly had it moved into position.

Lowering his arm, he tried once more to convince himself that Lily had been right, that his imagination had simply gotten the better of his common sense. Maybe that dark shape in the old photograph had been a shadow or a long-forgotten neighbor standing in the deepening dusk. Maybe he had been asleep in the hammock Saturday night. Maybe he had dreamed the woman on the porch and, later, the quiet sighs that had drifted through the house. Maybe he’d imagined all that he’d felt tonight. Maybe Aunt Anna had been temporarily crazy when she’d thought she’d seen Lillian years after her death.

Maybe heavy wooden doors could slip their latches and swing open on their own.
Stepping back from the closed door, Rob turned and walked up the hallway to his bedroom…

And decided to sleep with the lights on.
